Summary
1) How can we define a door-to-door service?
A door-to-door service is the most complete transfer solution, because all the steps are handled by only one entity, your freight forwarder. Thereby, FNM Vietnam can take the full process in charge in Vietnam and in your country. You don’t have to hire a local forwarder to accomplish the national part of the transfer. This is what an “All-inclusive” freight service means.
This service is very flexible. Indeed, you can choose the pickup place of your goods:
- At your supplier’s facilities
- At the port or airport of departure…
You decide where your goods will be brought:
- In your facilities
- At the terminal of the port or airport of arrival
- At your client’s address…
Of course, we can organize this service on the opposite way, from your country to Vietnam.
2) How is a door-to-door service unfolding?
FNM Vietnam will handle all the following steps:
- The pickup of your goods
- The packing and storage of your goods (if required)
- The assembly of the inherent documents of your transfer (Bill of Lading, Origin certificate, commercial invoice, packing list…)
- The freight insurance (if required)
- The main freight, sea or air
- The customs clearance of your goods
- The final delivery of your shipment
3) What are the benefits of this service?
Door-to-door delivery is giving 2 major advantages:
The first is that you will be implied the least possible. You can spend your saved time doing what you do the best and let your freight forwarder handle the whole transfer for you.
The second is that by centralizing the responsibility of the entire process, you don’t have to communicate to several forwarders, that are partially managing the transfer. This enable to avoid risks of misunderstanding, and unpredicted added costs. Indeed, you will only pay one bill, integrating all the transport phases of your goods.
4) The express door-to-door service (courier)
If your goods are measuring less than 1 CBM and 150 kgs, you can benefit of our express door-to-door services. Hence, we will send your shipment with the greatest express companies, like FedEx, TNT, DHL or UPS.
4.1) Why should I send my parcel through your services in express, instead of doing it myself?
This question is legitimate, and the answer isn’t complicated. Simply because you will benefit of our privileged relations with this companies, as we’re giving them a great volume of business. This enables us to have preferential rates for their services. Thereby, the rates we will provide you will be lower than if you’re directly contacting them.
5) The step by step guide of door-to-door services from/to Vietnam
2 administrative and 6 operation phases are made during a door-to-door service.
5.1) Transfer from your supplier to our warehouse
This phase is also called “Export Haulage” in logistics. Your goods are picked up at your supplier’s facilities and transferred to our warehouse. This phase is generally done by road freight.
This step is depending on the incoterm agreed in the contract between you and your supplier. In EXW, you’re responsible for this step, which means that FNM Vietnam will handle it for you. In FCA or FAS, your supplier will send by himself your goods to our warehouse.
5.2) The checking of the goods before shipping
Once it’s arrived in our warehouse, your goods will be unloaded from the truck that brought them. The forwarder will inspect your goods, to determine their ability to be transferred. He is also analysing if the packing is correct, so the transport will unfold without a problem. Once the goods and the documents required are checked, the shipment will be validated.
5.3) The export customs clearance of your goods
To be aware of all goods leaving their territory, customs are requiring an export clearance procedure. Naturally, this procedure is happening in every country. Several documents will be asked to identify your goods. Except if an export license is necessary for your goods to leave the country, this procedure is generally short and simple.
5.4) The operations at origin
After the export customs clearance, the shipment can be containerized. Depending on the total volume of your shipment, the container(s) will be sent to the port or airport of departure after. If the total volume of your shipment is low, your goods will be sent in LCL (in a container receiving different shipments belonging to numerous owners).
5.5) The main transport of your goods, between Vietnam and your destination
The main transport of your goods from or to Vietnam can be made using different methods, depending on where you are. If you’re in Asia, we can send your goods via road, rail, air or ocean freight. For all other places, air, sea or multimodal freight can be planned.
The chosen freight method is based on two parameters:
- Your goods’ features (weight, volume, hazard…)
- Your requirements in term of delivery delay

5.6) The import customs clearance
Each shipment must be cleared when entering in the country of destination. This enables authorities to control the entering flux inside its territory. To determine the import taxes that you may pay, you must declare your products and their value. If you’re benefiting of an exemption you will have nothing to pay.
Once that customs will validate the inherent documentation of your goods, and that taxes will have been paid, the transfer process can be followed inside your territory.
The customs commissioner, like FNM Vietnam, will handle the whole process. Depending on what customs are requiring, you must transmit all the necessary documents, in copies or originals.
5.7) Operations at destination
Once the goods are cleared, it can go through our warehouses, to be inspected, checked and sorted if needed. Once everything is validated, the final delivery can begin.
5.8) The transfer from our warehouse to your address
For the final delivery, we will bring your goods directly at your location. This step is also called “Import haulage” in the logistic industry. Your goods are usually delivered by trucks, but trains can also be used if necessary.
FNM Note: The final delivery isn’t mandatory, you can also come to take your goods directly in our facilities. It can help you to optimize your budget.

🚚 Are there any limits on the volume or weight of my shipments?
No, there are no limits of volume nor weight for your shipment. On the other hand, from a certain volume, we advise you to go through sea freight in order to reduce logistics costs as much as possible. Basically you can keep in mind the following information: from 0 to 2 CBM, we advise you to ship it by air freight. From 2 to 15 CBM, we suggest opting for an LCL solution by sea freight (Groupage). From 15 to 33 CBM, shipping within a 20 feet container (sealed from departure to arrival) will be the cheapest and safest option. Above 33 CBM, you will think about 40 feet container (with a capacity of 67 CBM) or 40 feet container HQ (with a capacity of 76 CBM).
